What if my JPG is still over 100KB?
Some photos — large group shots, fine textures, screenshots of text — resist 100 KB at first. Try these fixes in order, stopping at the first one that gives an acceptable result.
- Lower the JPG quality setting. Dropping from 75 to 60 typically cuts file size by 30–50% with little visible loss on portraits.
- Resize the dimensions. A 4000-px-wide photo carries far more data than a 1200-px one. Resize to 1024–1500 px wide before re-compressing.
- Convert to WEBP. If the upload form accepts WEBP, you can usually hit 100 KB at much higher visual quality than JPG.
- Remove metadata (EXIF, thumbnails, GPS). Phone photos can carry 30–100 KB of metadata you don't need.
- Only use smaller target sizes (e.g. 50 KB) if the form explicitly requires it — going below 100 KB damages quality fast.

Why does the file land just under 100 KB and not exactly 100 KB?+
JPG encoders work in discrete quality steps, so the closest stable output is usually a few KB under the target. Landing under is safer for upload validators that reject anything over 100 KB.
Can I keep the original dimensions?+
Yes — by default the tool only changes JPG quality. Dimensions are only reduced as a fallback if quality alone can't hit 100 KB.
Does this work for PNG photos?+
This page is JPG-only. For PNG, use the PNG compressor or convert PNG to JPG first — PNG rarely reaches 100 KB for a normal photo.
Will the photo still pass a face-match check?+
