When to use this tool
- You need a lossless copy you can re-edit without re-encoding artefacts.
- The destination expects PNG (some chat apps, document scanners, design tools).
- You plan to add transparency to the image later in an editor.
Best for
- Screenshots
- UI mockups
- Source files for further editing
- Print-ready graphics
Every image you drop here is processed entirely inside your browser using the standard Canvas and File APIs. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged on a server — you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
Quality & file size notes
- • PNG is lossless — it preserves the JPG exactly as it currently is. It cannot recover detail the JPG already discarded.
- • Expect the PNG to be 2–10× larger than the original JPG, especially for photos.
Things to watch out for
- — Converting JPG to PNG does not improve the image — it only stops further quality loss.
- — PNG files are usually too big for email attachments or social uploads. Compress or resize before sending.

Will JPG to PNG conversion improve image quality?+
No. PNG is a perfect copy of what's already in the JPG. It cannot restore detail that the JPG compression already removed.
Why is my PNG bigger than the original JPG?+
PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG aggressively compresses photos. A 500 KB JPG often becomes a 3–5 MB PNG. That's normal.
Can I add a transparent background after converting?+
Yes — once the file is PNG, you can use an editor (or our other tools) to erase the background and the transparency will be preserved.
